A blue screen error occurs randomly (Bugcheck 7F) citing mfeaack.sys as the probable cause of failure.

System Change

Installed VSE 8.8 Patch 6, McAfee Agent 5.0.2, or another McAfee product that includes mfeaack.sys version


The exception occurs due to memory corruption, which can occur at seemingly random times. The bugcheck itself appears to be random, as a code path encounters the corrupted memory sector. The memory corruption occurs due to a race condition when mfeaack.sys version is installed along with VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 (any patch level).

Products that currently install mfeaack.sys include VSE 8.8 Patch 6, MA 5.0.2, and DLPe 9.3 patch 2 (9.3.600).


This issue is resolved in VSE 8.8 Patch 7. Patches are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest one.
