UAS devices are not detected in Data Loss Prevention Endpoint

Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention Endpoint (DLP Endpoint) 9.x

Problem

USB attached SCSI (UAS) devices are not detected in DLP Endpoint even when a USB plug-and-play rule is configured with a USB bus type.

Cause

UAS devices are configured in Microsoft Windows as a new class of device driver rather than as a generic USB driver. When UAS devices are configured in this way, they are not detected by DLP Endpoint.

Solution

Configure a fixed hard drive rule to monitor and gather only the hardware characteristics of the devices you want to control.

After you have sufficient data to distinguish the UAS devices used in your organization, you can configure a new device definition to block, monitor, or read-only as needed.
