McAfee Rogue System Detection (RSD)

Problem

Agent-to-server communication fails, and McAfee Agent fails to update properties in ePO.

The Apache service Server_<system name>.log records the errors below:

NOTE: The file location is <ePO installation directory>\db\logs\.

NOTE: If the log does not contain dbo.RSDFN_ValidateMACString, you do not have the issue described in this article.

Cause

The RSD extension is in a partially installed state.

Solution

Remove the RSD Extension and restart the ePO Server service.

Log on to the ePO console.
Click Menu, Software, Extensions.
Select ePolicy Orchestrator in the McAfee section.
Locate Rogue System Detection and click Remove.
WARNING: The above action removes the RSD configuration. For help, see KB75700 - How to remove and reinstall the Rogue System Detection 5.x extension.

Restart the ePO Server (Apache) service:
1. Press Windows+R, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. Right-click the following service and select Restart:
  
  McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator x.x.x Server
3. Close the services window.
Send an agent wake-up call to the affected systems.

Workaround

If the above solution fails, perform these steps to remove the extension directly from the SQL database:

Download the RSD extension.
Open the .zip file and open the folder named SQL.
Locate the files named uninstall.sql and uninstall-4.7.0.sql.
Run both of these queries against the ePO database in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. You can double-click them on the SQL Server. Or, you can open the .sql files in Notepad and copy the contents as a new query against the ePO database.

NOTE: Depending on the corrupt version of RSD, one of these queries might fail, but the others do succeed. This behavior is expected.
Restart the ePO Server (Apache) service:
1. Press Windows+R, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. Right-click the following service and select Restart:
  
  McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator x.x.x Server
Send an agent wake-up call to the affected systems.
