ePO upgrade fails after running setup.exe on the primary cluster node,

 The following error is displayed during the upgrade:
To upgrade this ePolicy Orchestrator installation, run setup on the primary node of the cluster.


A registry value is present on the primary node that incorrectly identifies it as a secondary node.

  • The following information is intended for System Administrators. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly.
  • Before proceeding, Technical Support strongly recommends that you back up your registry and understand the restore process. For more information, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986.
  • Do not run a REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.
  1. Press Windows+R, type regedit.exe, and click OK.
  2. Identify if the following registry values exist. If either or both of the following registry values exist, delete them:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\SecondaryClusterNode
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432node\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\SecondaryClusterNode
    IMPORTANT: Make sure that you delete the SecondaryClusterNode key. Do not simply delete the data within the SecondaryClusterNode key; the installer is only looking for the existence of the key itself.
  3. Exit the registry.
  4. Run the installer.
