Environment

McAfee Application Control 6.2.0, 6.1.3, 6.1.2, 6.1.1
Microsoft Windows (all supported versions)

Problem

You uninstall an application either using the Uninstall option or from the Add or Remove Program screen; however, the uninstall fails and your client/system stops responding (hangs/crashes).

Cause

There is a compatibility issue between Symantec Endpoint Protection and Application Control.

Solution

  1. Exclude the following Application Control folders from Symantec Endpoint Protection:
    • C:\Program Files\McAfee
    • C:\ProgramData\McAfee
    • <All_Drives>:\Solidcore (For example, C:\Solidcore, D:\Solidcore, etc.)

  2. Add the following rules to Application Control:
    • sadmin skiplist add -i "C:\Program Files\Symantec"
    • sadmin skiplist add -i C:\ProgramData\Symantec
