File size and MD5 checksum are different depending on the web browser after Web Gateway scans a file

McAfee Web Gateway (MWG)

Problem

You are using the Composite Opener in your Web Gateway rule set, to extract and scan archive content. After the scan is complete and the file is released for client download, you see a difference in the file size and MD5 checksum for the file. The file size and checksum vary depending the web browser used to download the file.

Cause

The recompression process might use different compression parameters and cause the difference in the file size and MD5 checksum for the file.

Solution

To get the same file size and MD5 checksum in all web browsers you use, change the configuration as follows:

Log on to the Web Gateway user interface.
Navigate to Configuration, <appliance name>, Proxies, Advanced Settings.
Change the option Compress content to client to either Never or If server's response is compressed instead of the default value If client supports compression.
