McAfee Agent does not load the VirusScan Enterprise 8.8 ePolicy Orchestrator plug-in
Technical Articles ID:   KB87552

Environment

McAfee Agent 5.x
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8

Problem

McAfee Agent does not load the VSE 8.8 ePO plug-in. This plug-in controls policy enforcement and reporting for VSE on the endpoint.

If you open regedit.exe on the affected node, and navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\(Wow6432Node\)Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\VIRUSCAN8800 key, you can see the Plugin Flag REG_DWORD is set to 8.

The default value is 0, which allows the VSE plug-in for McAfee Agent to be loaded.

Cause

This issue occurs when an incomplete installation operation for VSE leaves an incorrect Plugin Flag registry value. The installation operation that failed should have returned the value to 0 at its conclusion.

NOTE: The (Wow6432Node\) registry path should be present only on x64 nodes.

Solution

This issue is resolved in VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.0 Update 9, which is available from the Product Downloads site at: http://mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products.

Updates are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest one.
