In October of 2015, we announced the End of Life (EOL) for McAfee Email Protection and Archiving products. Since then, we have communicated with our customers and partners regarding the timeline for end of sale, EOL, and end of support of these products.
As of January 11, 2017, the service has officially reached EOL for all customers on month-to-month contracts. At this time, the Email Protection and Archiving tabs have been removed from the Control Console and mail flow has been disabled.
Because mail flow has been stopped for your account, and the Email Protection and Archiving tabs have been removed as part of the service EOL, there is no way that service can or will be restored. We recommend completing the following actions, if you have not already completed them.
NOTE: McAfee SaaS Endpoint and McAfee SaaS Web Protection have also reached end of service; however, you can continue to purchase and use cloud-delivered web security and cloud-managed Endpoint security through McAfee resellers and our online store.
Email Protection
- To restore mail flow, contact your DNS provider to have your MX records redirected to point directly to your email server (or another provider if applicable), and to update your A record and SPF record if applicable. If you are unsure who your DNS provider is, you can perform a DNS look up at www.mxtoolbox.com or www.dnsgoodies.com for assistance in determining who you should contact.
- Most customers have their servers locked down to only allow inbound mail from our IP addresses. Because you will no longer be receiving mail from these IPs, remove this restriction, either from your firewall rules or server rules, whichever applies. For assistance with this task, refer to your server or firewall documentation.
- If you are using the outbound filtering service, you must remove the outbound smart host from the send connector on your server. For assistance with this task, refer to your server documentation.
- If you are using the outbound message encryption service, messages will no longer be encrypted
- ClickProtect links will continue to function normally until a yet-to-be-determined date in 2018.
- Remove the Encryption add-in from Outlook on users’ machines, if applicable.
- You will not be able to access the Email Protection or Archiving tabs in the Control Console and download any information such as allow/deny lists, user lists, or message audit details. This information is not recoverable.
Email Archiving
- Because your account has reached end of life, you will no longer have access to any features of the Email Archiving service except the EOL archive export. This means that ingest, index, search, and individual message export are no longer available.
- Disable or remove the journal mailbox and related rules from your server. We are no longer ingesting and removing messages from the journal mailbox, so this will cause the mailbox to quickly increase in size and take up excessive space on the server. For additional information on how to complete this task, refer to your server documentation.
- You have 90 days from the EOL date of January 11, 2017 to begin an export of your archived messages. This export will not be started automatically, and must be initiated from the Account Management tab in the Control Console.
- When the archive export has completed and the files are available for download from the Control Console, you have 90 days to download these files, after which they may be permanently purged from our servers at any time.
- Alternatively, messages may be manually purged from the archive using the available archive purge tool.
IMPORTANT: The purge action is irrevocable, and will permanently delete your archive data.
Web Protection
- Web traffic will no longer be filtered; web access has stopped through the proxy and will not be re-established.
- Depending on what authentication method you use to access the web protection service, you may need to do any of the following:
- Remove the proxy settings from all browsers.
- Uninstall the WDS connector from your server.
- Uninstall the McAfee Client Proxy (MCP) from end user machines.
- If you would like to continue using a cloud-delivered web security solution, you can establish a new account with a McAfee Partner or through the online store. New accounts must be established for all customers.
