Screen capture protection rule does not work when opening multiple browser tabs
Technical Articles ID:   KB88967
Last Modified:  3/21/2017

Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention Endpoint (DLP Endpoint) 10.x, 9.4

Problem

Screen capture protection rule does not work when opening multiple tabs in a browser with the following conditions configured in the rule:

[Condition]

and Application visible on screen : is one of the supported browsers.
and Source URL :  is any web URL (ALL)

[Exception]

and Application visible on screen : is one of the supported browsers.
and Source URL :  is one of the web URL (OR) : https://www.xxxxx.com

Cause

Protection rules that allow URL-based definitions (clipboard, printing, screenshot etc.) are designed to trigger for each open browser tab/window. Triggering occurs regardless of whether or not the browser tab/window is the active tab/window. When running multiple browser tabs/windows, one of them can have the protection rules enforced on it while the others do not.

Solution

This is considered to be normal behavior and DLP Endpoint is operating as intended.
