Removable Media Policy 'Allow Unprotected Access (Report)' does not apply to 4.x clients
Technical Articles ID:   KB88987
Last Modified:  5/28/2019

Environment

McAfee File and Removable Media Protection (FRP) 5.x, 4.3.x
McAfee Endpoint Encryption for Files and Folder (EEFF) 4.2.x

Problem

When the FRP 5.0.x Removable Media policy is set to Allow Unprotected Access (Report), the policy option is not applied to EEFF/FRP 4.x clients when the ePolicy Orchestrator
(ePO)server has the FRP 5.x extension checked in.

Although the clients successfully downloads the policy, only the CD/DVD portion of the policy is applied and not the USB portion of the policy.

Cause

The policy option Allow Unprotected Access (Report), was first introduced in FRP 5.0.0. The EEFF 4.2.x and FRP 4.3.x clients are unable to use the functionality in the new policy created by the FRP 5.x extension.

Solution

Upgrade the EEFF/FRP 4.x clients to FRP 5.0 or later.
