Environment

McAfee Web Gateway (MWG) 7.x

Summary

All McAfee Web Gateway WBG-5000 and WBG-5500 model appliances have remote access cards. If the setup fails or you lose the logon credentials, you must perform a factory reset. To reset the Remote Management Module (RMM), perform the steps in this article.

NOTE: This procedure does not necessarily require physical access to the appliance. You can either connect a console to the appliance or connect to the command-line using SSH.
This procedure does not have any impact on filtering web traffic.

Solution

To reset the RMM to factory default settings:
  1. Open a command-line session to the MWG appliance using SSH.
  2. Perform a factory reset. Type the following command and press ENTER:

    syscfg14 -rfs
    IMPORTANT:
Wait for 60 seconds and do not issue any further commands in that time to allow the BMC to initialize.

  3. Reboot the BMC. Type the following command and press ENTER:

    syscfg14 -rbmc

NOTE: The reboot takes several minutes. Monitor the command-line output to be notified when this process is complete.

  4. Start a clean setup of the Remote Management Module. Type the following command and press ENTER:

    rmm-enable

  5. Configure the RMM as required.
