McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.1.0 with or without Patch 1, 2 or 3
All supported Windows Operating Systems in Legacy BIOS Mode

Hewlett Packard (HP) Spectre Pro x360 G2

Problem

You successfully install DE, encrypt, and activate it on HP Spectre Pro x360 G2. After a subsequent system restart, the HP Spectre Pro x360 G2 fails to boot.

The following error is displayed during preboot authentication:

Fatal Error: [0xEE0D0001] Failed to read Registry File

After preboot authentication, a blank screen is displayed and the system becomes unresponsive.

Cause

Firmware compatibility issue.

Solution

Upgrade the BIOS, then upgrade DE:
  1. Upgrade BIOS to the latest version for this model.

  2. Upgrade DE to either:
    • DE 7.1.0 Patch 3 Hotfix 1148978 (build 7.1.3.604)
    • 7.2.0 or later
