Windows 7 system hangs with Endpoint Security Threat Prevention 10.5.x Exploit Prevention enabled

Problem

With ENS Threat Prevention 10.5.x installed and Exploit Prevention enabled, the Windows 7 system hangs and the user is unable to log in. This issue can occur immediately after installing ENS Threat Prevention, or it might occur later (for example, after a few weeks).

Cause

There is a lock on a thread that is involved in an Exploit Prevention call.

Solution

This issue is resolved in ENS 10.5.1 Hotfix 2.

NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products.

Workaround

Disable Exploit Prevention:
  1. Log on to the ePolicy Orchestrator console.
  2. Click Menu, Policy, Policy Catalog.
  3. Select Endpoint Security Threat Prevention from the Product drop-down list.
  4. Select Exploit Prevention from the Category drop-down list.
  5. Click the policy.
  6. Deselect Enable Exploit Prevention.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Perform an agent wake-up call to apply the policy to systems.
