Mac client systems with an IPv6 subnet mask report as IPv4 (or are blank) in ePolicy Orchestrator system details
Technical Articles ID:   KB89638
Last Modified:  4/3/2019

Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.5.0, 5.0.x

MAC OS X, macOS

Problem

The subnet mask address for Mac clients using IPv6 only is shown as IPv4 or blank when using MA 5.5.0 or MA 5.0.x.

Example:
A client system using IPv6 only reports an IPv6 subnet mask of 'ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff::' to ePO. But within ePO, when drilling into the system details for the client system, the subnet mask shown might be 255.255.248.0 or blank.

Cause

MA for Mac versions 5.5.0 and 5.0.x, do not expand the IPv6 address for subnet mask in a format that ePO can successfully process by the ePO server.

Example:
The agent might report an IPv6 subnet address of  'ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff::' which is a valid IPv6 address, but not one that ePO can process. MA must expand the address to 'ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:0:0:0:0'.

Solution

This issue is resolved with MA 5.5.1.
