Mac client machines with an IPv6 subnet mask report as IPv4 (or are blank) in ePO system details
Technical Articles ID:   KB89638
Last Modified:  7/10/2018

Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.0.x
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.x

MAC OS X

Problem

The subnet mask address for Mac clients using IPv6 only is shown as IPv4 or blank when using MA 5.0.x.

For example, a client machine using IPv6 only reports an IPv6 subnet mask of ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:: to ePO. However, within ePO, when drilling into the system details for the client machine, the subnet mask shown might be 255.255.248.0 or blank.

Cause

MA for Mac versions 5.0.0 through 5.0.6 do not expand the IPv6 address for subnet mask in a format that can be successfully processed by the ePO server.

For example, the agent may report an IPv6 subnet address of  ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff::, which is a valid IPv6 address, but not one that can be processed by ePO. MA should expand the address to 'ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff:0:0:0:0'.

Solution

This issue will be corrected in a future release of MA.
