Problem

After you successfully install VSE, the Windows Action Center notification occurs for Security and Maintenance, and states:

Check virus protection Windows defender and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise are both turned off.
Tap or click to see installed anti-virus apps.

When notification from the Windows Action Center is received stating that VSE is disabled, inspection of the VSE status confirms that the product is up to date, enabled, and working properly.

Solution

VSE 8.8 Patch 11 Hotfix 1230882 (HF1230882) resolves this issue. To view the hotfix release notes, see PD27818.

NOTES:
  • The solution was found too late to be included in VSE 8.8 Patch 11.
  • VSE 8.8 Patch 10 Hotfix 1225180 is not supported with VSE 8.8 Patch 11.
  • The build number 8.8.0.1981 mentioned in the VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.0 Patch 10 Hotfix 1225180 Release Notes is specific to the build of VsTskMgr.exe. The VSE base build stays at 8.8.0.1906.

Workaround

Reset the Windows Security Center (WSC) state for VSE:
  1. Open a command prompt as an administrator:
    1. Click Start.
    2. In the Start Search box, type cmd, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.
    3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  2. From an Administrator command shell, type the following commands:

    CD C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\
    WscAVExe.exe /eu
     
  3. Close the command window.
