System crash (blue screen error) can occur during an upgrade from an earlier (older) VSE version to VSE Patch 10.

Bugcheck Analysis key details:
  • Bugcheck 50
  • PROCESS_NAME: DAInstall.exe mfeaack+8bad (AV_mfeaack!unknown_function)
  • PROCESS_NAME: DAInstall.exe (mfeaack!CAacSys::ReportEvent+0x1dd)


The system crash is the result of an improper cleanup of clifton driver (mfeclftk.sys). It was unloaded without properly being de-registered.


This issue is resolved in VSE 8.8 Patch 11, which is available from the Product Downloads site at: http://mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access. KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products.

Patches are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest one.

VSE 8.8 Patch 11 will remove the Clifton driver to prevent a system crash.

VSE 8.8 Patch 11 is the latest patch available from the Downloads tab on the ServicePortal at https://support.mcafee.com/downloads.

NOTE: VSE 8.8 Patch 11 supports all supported Windows operating systems.
