Default password changes with FRP 5.0.6 and later
An uninitialized FRP user, is a user who has never logged on to FRP using password authentication. Every FRP user is assigned a default password that they can use to access keys assigned to them with the Password authentication. If unchanged, the default password for an uninitialized user is
12345.
Using FRP Key Authentication Settings, an administrator can configure the default password that is assigned to the user. An FRP uninitialized user would need to enter the default password as their password, before being prompted to set their own. It is this default password of
12345 that has been changed to
1234567, as of FRP 5.0.6 and later.
It is important to understand that the default password is used only when the password wallet is created for the user. The wallet gets created the first time a key is assigned to the FRP user with password authentication. Thus, the default password is maintained once a wallet has been created, even if the server setting changes later on.
The following scenarios are examples where the default password change might affect you:
- Scenario 1 - Upgrade of FRP with unchanged default password
If the default password 12345 is unchanged in server settings, when the extension is upgraded the default password changes to 1234567.
- Scenario 2 - Upgrade of FRP with changed default password
Scenario 2a
- The default password is changed in Server Settings to a password that is not 12345.
- The password is still fewer than 7 characters.
- Outcome: The password resets to 1234567 when the extension is upgraded.
Scenario 2b
- The default password is changed in Server Settings to a password that is not 12345,
- The password is more than or equal to 7 characters.
- Outcome: The password does not change when the extension is upgraded.
- Scenario 3 - New or clean install of FRP
A clean installation of FRP 5.0.6 or later comes preconfigured with a default password of 1234567 in FRP Key Authentication Settings.
