Default password changes with DE 7.2.5 and later
An uninitialized DE user is a user who has never logged on through DE’s preboot. Every DE user that is assigned to a system has a
User-Based Policy (UBP). This policy might be the system-assigned UBP, or a specific non-default UBP might have been assigned to the user. Using the default settings of the UBP, an uninitialized user needs to enter
12345 as their password, before being prompted to set their own. It is this default password of
12345 that has been changed to
1234567 with DE 7.2.5 and later.
To understand the implications of this change, it is important to understand that the default password is contained in the UBP itself. Because of this design, the default password is:
- Maintained during export and import of the policy.
- Sharing of the policy among other ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) servers
- And when duplicating a policy in the catalog.
The following scenarios are examples where the default password change might affect you:
- Scenario 1 (Upgrading DE)
During upgrade to DE 7.2.5 or later, the only User-Based Policy that is modified is that of the read-only McAfee Default UBP. All other UBPs remain unchanged.
- Scenario 2 (New or clean install of DE)
A clean installation of DE 7.2.5 or later yields two User-Based Policies:
- McAfee Default
- My Default
Both of the above policies contain the new default password of 1234567.
