For Host IPS for Linux 8.0 Patch 11 and later: The MER tool is built into the product installation. To collect the MER file from a command-line session, run the following command with the 'root' account (or with the sudo command): NOTE: Characters are case sensitive. # /opt/McAfee/hip/HIPSMerTool.sh
For Host IPS for Linux 8.0 Patch 10 and earlier: The MER tool is included in the Attachment section of this article. Download it to the Linux system and place it in a directory that can be executed, for example, the /tmp or /home directory. To collect the MER file from a command-line session, navigate to the location of the .sh file and run the following command: sudo sh ./HIPSMerTool.sh
Example output: Running HIPS MER tool Completed generating Host Intrusion Prevention System diagnostic report. It is available at /home/user/HIPS-mer_12_06_2018_09-09-45.tar.gz. This command creates a file named HIPS-mer_<date_time>.tar.gz in your present working directory. Related Information
