McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Application Server service can crash (stack overflow) during a repository replication

Environment

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 5.9.1

Problem

The McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator Application Server service (Tomcat) crashes intermittently when a large distributed repository replication server task is in progress.

A basic crash dump analysis, for example, using WinDbg, shows that a stack overflow-type condition is the cause:

EXCEPTION_RECORD:  (.exr -1)
ExceptionAddress: 00007ffd1160b9ac (ntdll!RtlUnicodeStringValidateDestWorker+0x0000000000000020)
  ExceptionCode: c00000fd (Stack overflow)
  ExceptionFlags: 00000000
NumberParameters: 2
   Parameter[0]: 0000000000000001
   Parameter[1]: 0000000048db3fd8
BUGCHECK_STR:  STACK_OVERFLOW
DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID:  STACK_OVERFLOW
PROCESS_NAME:  tomcat7.exe

Cause

Insufficient stack allocation by the Tomcat service, combined with many files during a distributed repository replication task, can result in a stack overflow and application crash. (A large number of files is most frequently associated with AMCore content files.)
