After upgrading from Endpoint Security 10.5.4 August Update to 10.6.0, Endpoint Security Platform and Adaptive Threat Protection services are unable to start

McAfee Endpoint Security (ENS) 10.5.4 August Update to 10.6.0 upgrades

Problem

Upgrading from ENS 10.5.4 August Update to ENS 10.6.0 completes successfully; but, there are missing Endpoint Security Platform (ESP) files. The ESP and Adaptive Threat Protection (ATP) services are also unable to start due to Validation Trust Protection (VTP) failures.

The EndpointSecurityPlatform_Errors.log shows errors similar to the following:

Cause

ENS 10.5.4 August Update and ENS 10.6.0 have different paths for the files. There is an issue in the installer and the files are not moved correctly.

Solution

This issue is resolved in Endpoint Security 10.6.1, which is available from the Product Downloads site at: http://mcafee.com/us/downloads/downloads.aspx.

NOTE: You need a valid Grant Number for access.

KB56057 provides additional information about the Product Downloads site, and alternate locations for some products. Updates are cumulative; Technical Support recommends that you install the latest one.

Workaround

Repair the Common module from the repair cache:
  1. Navigate to the repair cache folder:

    C:\Program Files\McAfee\Endpoint Security\Endpoint Security Platform\RepairCache\
     
  2. Run the following command:

    SetupCC.exe /f
​NOTE: If the issue is not resolved with this workaround, you must reinstall ENS 10.6.0 to repair the Common module.

Workaround

Reinstall ENS 10.6.0:
  1. Uninstall ENS 10.6.0.

    NOTE: If ENS 10.6.0 does not uninstall, use the Endpoint Product Removal tool.
     
  2. Restart the system.
  3. Install ENS 10.6.0.
