How to install McAfee Logon Collector using a non-JRE install package

Environment

McAfee Logon Collector (MLC) version 3.0.9

Summary

On June 30, 2018, all MLC install packages were removed. If you already had an existing MLC installation, or downloaded an install package before the removal, this change has no impact on you. If you previously downloaded a legacy installation package for MLC that contains a JRE, McAfee recommends that you retain it so you can use it to reinstall MLC, if the future need arises.

Problem

You download and try to install MLC. During the installation, you are asked to specify the JRE location. You do not have JRE installed or are not sure of the executables location. There is no Skip button and Next is grayed out, so you cannot move past this step of the installation and must click Cancel.

Cause

MLC does not work without JRE, so you must provide the location of JRE to continue with the installation.

NOTE: If you try to install the reposted MLC package using an unsupported JRE package, the MLC installer prevents the installation from completing.

Solution

Install Java and MLC using the following method:

Download Java version 1.7.0_80:
1. Click Here to open the Java downloads page.
2. Scroll down to the Java SE Runtime Environment 7u80 section.
3. Locate and click the link to the jre-7u80-windows-x64.exe download.
  NOTE: You must create an account and log on to the site before you can download the package.
4. Click Here to open the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files 7 Download page.
5. Download the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files 7 by clicking the download link.
Install the JRE you downloaded above on the MLC server:
1. Double-click the jre-7u80-windows-x64.exe executable.
2. Select the Change destination folder box and click Install.
3. Note where JRE is to be installed. You can change this path but you need to know it in a later step.
  Click Next.
4. Deselect any Java versions listed.
  NOTE: If you see the error Out-of-Date Java versions Detected, click Uninstall.
  This action prevents older versions of Java from being uninstalled in case they are used by other applications on the server. You can uninstall them through the Programs and Features section of Windows later, if you determine they are not needed.
  Click Next.
5. Unzip the Policy Files archive you downloaded in Step 1e and place the three extracted files inside the archive in the <JRE install path you noted earlier>\lib\security folder.
  NOTE: Replace the identically named files that currently exist in that directory.
6. Install MLC following the standard process.
  IMPORTANT:
  - See the Installation Guide for your release of MLC if you are unsure of the steps.
  - When the installation prompts you for the JRE installation (Specify JRE Location), enter the path you noted earlier.
