Segfault occurs on masvc process and McAfee Agent services are stopped on Linux systems

Environment

McAfee Agent (MA) 5.6.0, 5.5.x, 5.0.x

Problem

At random times, a segfault occurs on the McAfee Agent service masvc.

Messages log (/var/log/) records the following error:

<computer_name> kernel: masvc[7690]: segfault at 78 ip 00007fd6ed8c4041 sp 00007ffdf4ef4700 error 4 in libuv.so.0.10[7fd6ed8bb000+24000]

 
Masvc_<computer_name>.log records the following error:

NOTE: Errors are only seen when logging is set to detailed logging in the McAfee Agent policy before debug messages appear in the masvc log.
 
594 (3011.3011) icmp.Debug: echo pkg send to repository <server_name>/<2001:480:10:16::11> failed, lets try one more time.

Cause

This issue can occur if the system does not have IPv6 enabled and McAfee Agent tries to create an IPv6 socket when a name resolution for an IPv6 repository is performed.

Solution

This issue is resolved with McAfee Agent 5.6.1.

Workaround

Restart all McAfee Agent services using the following command:
 
/etc/init.d/ma start
