Exceptions based on email recipients do not function for email protection rule

Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Endpoint for Windows - all supported versions

Problem

Email protection rules for email recipients do not interpret email addresses correctly. As a result, false matches occur. The DLP Agent log displays the following error:

[ERROR] [Outlook Probe] [MailInspector::getRecipientsUsingOOM] Failed getting recipient email from address book

Cause

The Outlook object model is not returning a parseable value, due to several reasons in the environment.

Solution

The Outlook Object Model can be replaced with the Microsoft API calls in the Email Handling API. This setting is in the Email Protection section of the Windows Client Configuration policy.
