This article details the steps to migrate VSMac to the latest version of ENSM. ENSM has enhanced features that use the latest developments in security technology and provide you with utmost protection against threats.
Some of the policy settings that you're familiar with in VSMac have changed or been updated. Based on whether you want to retain the current policy settings, follow one of the actions below:
- Retain any current settings and policy assignments.
- Use the Migration Assistant extension in ePO to transfer your settings before you deploy ENSM.
- You can migrate your settings either automatically or manually.
- See the Migration Assistant Guide for detailed steps.
- Don't retain any current settings and policy assignments.
- Uninstall VSMac or the older version of ENSM.
- Perform a fresh installation of ENSM based on the supported operating system you're using. See the table below for the MA and ENSM versions that support a particular Mac operating system.
- See the Endpoint Security for Mac Installation Guide and Endpoint Security for Mac Product Guide for detailed steps.
We highly recommend performing the migration on test systems, before trying the migration within a production environment. During the migration, if you experience any technical issues, don't move forward with any additional steps. Contact Technical Support.

Important Tips to Remember:
- You need to check in Mac license extensions into ePO to see migration settings. For more information, see the "Preparing to migrate" section of the Migration Assistant Guide.
- When you migrate from VSMac and ENSM to the latest version of ENSM, Threat Prevention and Firewall Preferences are migrated. When you upgrade from the previous version, the existing software is removed completely, but the preferences for all modules are saved. The preferences are saved in the /usr/local/.McAfee folder. When you install a module, the respective preferences are migrated from this folder.
- When you migrate the preferences from VSMac, the Quarantine scan action is migrated and renamed to Delete. Also, the Notify scan action is migrated and renamed to Deny. The functionality is the same.
- For any exclusions migrated from VSMac, regex exclusions with ".*" and ".?" are converted to wildcard characters "*" and "?" in the ENSM preferences.
- Follow the steps below to check the current operating system, MA, and antivirus versions installed on your systems.
- To check the installed Mac operating system version, click the Apple icon on the menu at the top-left corner of your screen. Then, select About This Mac. For more information, see this Apple article.
- To check the installed MA version, click the McAfee Menulet icon on the upper-right of the Menu bar, and then select McAfee Agent Status Monitor on the pop-up menu. You can then see the MA version details.
- To check the installed antivirus version, click the McAfee Menulet icon on the upper-right of the Menu bar, and then select About on the pop-up menu. You can then see the antivirus version details.
