Environment

McAfee Endpoint Security (ENS) Threat Prevention 10.7.x

Problem

Custom on-demand scan (ODS) tasks fail to run after you upgrade to ENS 10.7.

The EndpointSecurityPlatform_Errors.log shows:

Failed to create ePO task. TaskId: ####.

The masvc_<hostname>.log shows:

2020-07-03 08:51:03.711 masvc(5248.5948) scheduler.Info: Scheduler: Invoking task [<ODS Task name>]...
2020-07-03 08:51:03.712 masvc(5248.5948) scheduler.Info: The task <ODS Task name> becomes active
2020-07-03 08:51:04.745 masvc(5248.5948) scheduler.Info: The task <ODS Task name> has failed

Solution

This issue is resolved in ENS 10.7.0 September 2020 Update.

Workaround

Modifying, or deleting and re-creating, the custom ODS task assignment temporarily mitigates the issue. But, a duplicate registry entry with no "StartDateTime" value exists for the task. Upon the next ENS upgrade, the issue returns.
