CSV data isn’t detected in attachments

Environment

McAfee Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Monitor 11.4 or later
McAfee DLP Prevent 11.4 or later

Problem

When you attach a .csv file to an email or upload it to a website, the file content might not be detected. The file isn’t detected even when terms in the file would trigger rules in the policy.

Cause

This issue occurs because the DLP Content Scanning Engine doesn't know how to properly detect the CSV data. When you try to extract CSV content to text, it’s unable to break the content into separate terms for scanning.

Solution

Technical Support is investigating this issue. As a temporary measure, implement the following workaround.

A workaround is available that you can implement on the Prevent or Monitor appliance. Contact Technical Support for assistance. Although a workaround is available, there are some situations where the character set detection could still fail. The content in the CSV can still be improperly identified, which mangles the data on extraction to text.

To contact Technical Support, go to the Create a Service Request page and log on to the ServicePortal.

If you are a registered user, type your User ID and Password, and then click Log In.
If you are not a registered user, click Register and complete the fields to have your password and instructions emailed to you.
