SAS connectors do not fit correctly into LSI RAID card or DAS device is not detected

Environment

McAfee SIEM Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) 11.x
McAfee SIEM Direct Attached Storage (DAS) 11.x
McAfee SIEM Enterprise Log Manager (ELM) 11.x

Problem

When cabling the DAS to ESM or ELM, it is not possible to fit both MINI-SAS-HD cables into the RAID card. Installing one cable partially blocks the other port. The DAS is not detected with either cable inserted.

If you plug the two SAS cables into two different RAID cards, the DAS is not detected.

Cause

The MINI-SAS-HD sockets and cables are square, and it is possible to insert the cables in any orientation of 0/90/180/270 degrees. However, the cable is only made to fully insert and click into place in one orientation. If the cables are inserted sideways, they partially block the second SAS port, and fail to click into place. So, the DAS is not detected.

Some customers attempt to plug one cable into one RAID card, and the second cable into another RAID card, which does not work. Both SAS cables must be plugged into the same RAID card.

Solution

The blue tab on the MINI-SAS-HD cables must be up or down depending on which side of the rise card the RAID card is installed, but not sideways.
The cable must be fully inserted and click into place. If the cable does not click into place, it is not inserted in the incorrect orientation.
When correctly inserted, the cables must fit snugly side by side and click into place.
