SummaryFormBook is commodity malware sold on hacker forums since 2016 that is designed to steal information from infected machines. The malware collects data through a keylogger or form grabber functionality and by collecting available data in browsers and email clients. A new variant of FormBook has been discovered circulating and spreading through malicious Microsoft PowerPoint files in phishing emails. The campaign used a fake purchase order theme with a malicious attachment to convince users to open the file. Malicious VBA code ran in the background after the file was opened resulting in a PowerShell command downloading the payload. The McAfee Enterprise ATR Team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports. This campaign was reported by researchers at Fortinet and shared publicly. How to use this article:
