SummaryTwo scripting engine vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer were exploited in a RIG Exploit Kit campaign. The flaws are classified under CVE-2019-0752 and CVE-2018-8174 and are due to how objects are handled in memory. Unsuspecting users accessing legitimate websites are redirected to malicious landing pages under the actor's control. Successful exploitation results in victims infected with the WastedLoader malware family. The multi-staged malicious software performs sandbox evasion, binary padding, DLL injection, and masquerading for defense evasion. The McAfee Enterprise ATR Team gathers and analyzes information from multiple open and closed sources before disseminating intelligence reports.
