McAfee SNS Notice: Anti-Malware Scan Engine 6010 and Command Line Scanner 6.1.3 Release Information

The McAfee Anti-Malware Scan Engine is the core component at the heart of the McAfee Endpoint and Gateway products. Using patented technology, the Engine analyzes potentially malicious code to detect and block Trojans, viruses, worms, adware, spyware, and other threats. This notice announces the initial availability of a new maintenance update to the current Scan Engine 6000 release and Command Line Scanner. It sets out important information about the download options and release plan for this update. Please note how this will affect the products in use in your environment.

Changes in this release, Engine 6010 and Command Line Scanner 6.1.3:

  • Future platform support, including case-sensitivity support for Windows 10 19H1
  • File-scanning performance improvements for Windows
  • Sustaining fixes for all platforms

Tentative release schedule for the Scan Engine 6010  and Command Line Scanner 6.1.3:

NOTE: Future dates are subject to change.

  • Beta/RC availability from April 9, 2019
  • General Availability (Elective download) for Endpoint Security from May 15, 2019
  • General Availability (Elective download) VirusScan Enterprise, Linux, and Mac from May 16, 2019
  • General Availability (AutoUpdate) for Endpoint Security expected June 25, 2019

Release availability:

  • For Endpoint Security installations:
    • The new Engine has been available for early evaluation from the Beta download channel from April 9, 2019.
    • The new Engine will be available for elective download from the ‘commonupdater3’ download channel from May 15, 2019.
    • Because of the nature of the changes in this release for current Windows platforms, Engine 6010 will be delivered through an automatic update expected on June 25, 2019. This automatic update is for all Endpoint Security and Consumer WSS installations that received update via V3 daily DAT updates, with no further action required.
  • For VirusScan Enterprise installations, non-Windows platforms and OEM customers - The new Engine will be available from the Security Updates page and SDK as an elective (optional) update from May 16, 2019. There are no current plans to move this to auto-update, but use of the new release is recommended. Engine 6000 will remain available for those customers that do not want to take the new update.
  • There are no plans to move Scan Engine 6000 to End of Life (EOL) at this time. 
  • VirusScan Command Line Scanner 6.1.3 (with Engine 6010) is available from the McAfee Product Downloads site using a valid grant number.
